Dun Laoghaire Golf Club

On Sunday 25th July the final of the Leinster Championships was fittingly contested by Monique Smit (Oubaai RSA) and Louise Coffey (Malone) as both had displayed exceptional golf throughout the three days of competition. Louise got the early lead but Monique eagled the par 5 third hole to bring the match back to level.  A tight contest ensued with Monique turning 1 up.  Louise missed a chance to level the match on the 10th and Monique then moved up a gear and closed the match out on the 15th hole.  Her accuracy off the tee and her chipping were of the highest quality throughout the match. 

The Junior Championship or Duggan Cup final saw the emergence of a bright new talent in Jenny Maguire (Foxrock).  Her opposition was the local favourite Mai Tan (Dun Laoghaire) who had convincingly defeated some very strong contenders on her way to the final. Jenny had the extra length off the tee which proved a crucial element in the contest and was three up after nine.  She increased her lead after the 10th and her excellent ball striking proved too good for her opposition and clinched the title on the 15th.
