Paul Dunne (Greystones) fired rounds of 71 and 70 in highly testing conditions to capture the Irish Youths Amateur Close Championship at the magnificently presented Dun Laoghaire Golf Club.

Dunne, the reigning Irish Boys Champion who is set to travel with the Irish Senior team to the European Amateur Team Championship tomorrow (Saturday) lay two over par (four over for the Championship) through eleven holes of his third round, but a blistering closing stretch featuring birdies on the twelfth, fifteenth and seventeenth holes have him a one stroke lead over Richard O'Donovan (Lucan) heading in to the final round.

Dunne covered the opening nine of the final round in one under par to extend his advantage to three as O'Donovan dropped back. Birdies on the tenth and twelfth holes further cemented his position and the immensely talented seventeen year old coasted home over the closing six holes for cosy two stroke victory.

Jeff Hopkins (Skerries) who will fly to Turkey tomorrow for the European Boys Team Championship shot a 71 in the third round and covered the last nine of the final round in 32 stokes to fly up the leaderboard - closing from thirteenth place overnight to eventually finish runner-up.
